Literary Lineages - Panel Discussion

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Sunday, February 27, 2022
Muse, East Hotel, Kingston Canberra ACT

Writing requires solitude but it need not be lonely. Rather, we write alongside, and in conversation with, others—kin and strangers, historical and contemporary, local and global.

Join friends Zhi Yi Cham, Aline-Mwezi Niyonsenga and Shu-Ling Chua as they discuss the importance of literary communities, as well as the various influences on their work.

Aline-Mwezi Niyonsenga's name is short for 'moonlight' in Kinyarwanda. She writes black speculative fiction. Her work reflects on unbelonging with the help of dragons, magical fish and the occasional ghost. She is most grateful for all the places that have published her work, including Fantasy Magazine, demos journal, FIYAH Magazine of Black Speculative Fiction, Apparition Lit and Djed Press. Click here for links to her work.

Zhi Yi Cham is a multidisciplinary poet and artist whose practice is highly collaborative. They are the author of the award-winning collection of poetry, blur by the, and are one half of the band 莎瑜. You can find them on Instagram @dev0tion111

Shu-Ling Chua is a Melbourne-based (formerly Canberra-based) essayist, critic and poet. Her debut essay collection, Echoes, jointly won the 2021 Small Press Network Book of the Year Award. She is interested in image, femininity, memory, interiors, and the blurry boundaries between private and public.
