Advocate. Connect. Develop. Celebrate.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - 6pm Thursday 22 April 2021

ACT Writers has weathered the rigours of a global pandemic with innovation and leadership. With the support of our members, partners and our resilient arts community, we have emerged in a strong position. Our mission is compelling and clear, and we have a significant responsibility to fulfil as the leading organisation of writing-based culture in the ACT.

Of course, there are always further improvements to be made, and we are actively listening and engaging with those we support, serve and work with.

Our priorities are providing sustainable, high quality services that: advocate for, connect, develop and celebrate writers in the ACT region.

While ACT Writers steered through the height of the COVID-19 pandemic with agility and fiscal prudence, the environment in which we deliver our program is still subject to instability. Thus, we are focussed on continuing to shore-up our financial position and operate as responsibly and efficiently as possible. To meet these challenges, we’ll need fresh thinking, informed strategies, and enduring, diverse collaborations.

To help us be an even more effective organisation and leader in the ACT arts ecology, we are looking for suitably qualified people to join our board. We’d love to hear from you if you understand what it means to balance a creative arts practice with the commercial practicalities of maintaining a livelihood. We are specifically seeking a person with the necessary experience to take on the role of treasurer. A range of other backgrounds, including experience with grant applications, fundraising, events, finance, human resources and the law, are also in-demand.

Maybe you have exciting ideas for how we can support writers at all stages of their careers. Or perhaps you are simply looking to be more connected to your community. If so, now is the perfect time to get involved and make a contribution.

To nominate for a position

Please email director@actwriters.org with your relevant qualifications. Please also provide a 100-word statement on your eligibility for the position and the ACT Writers Centre member who endorses this nomination.

Section 13.1B of the ACT Writers Centre Constitution stipulates that all nominations must be received 14 days before the Annual General Meeting. We encourage anyone interested to apply for a position on the Board, particularly if you have experience in financial management, not-for-profit law, and not-for-profit business management.

Nominations close Midnight AEST Thursday 8 April 2021.

The ACT Writers Centre Board welcome nominations from all members or independents who would like to contribute to a dynamic and creative not-for-profit organisation.  The Board particularly invites individuals who have the following interest or experience:

-       Financial management and experience

-       Fundraising and sponsorship experience

-       Not-for-profit law and community organisation experience

As this will be only the second time the ACT Writers Centre has held an online AGM, we appreciate your understanding and patience.

Running of the Meeting

The way voting will occur online is the Chair will call for votes, those who are in favour are to write Aye in the Zoom chat and those against to write Nay. These votes will be tallied and a record will be kept.
