THAT POETRY THING

Alex Eagleton Tarot Book Launch
Poetry reading + Open Mic

Open mic
7-9pm Monday 10 February
(Doors open 6:30pm)
Smith’s Alternative, Canberra

Taking inspiration from each of the Major Arcana, Alex Eagleton explores the many facets of life in a series of expressive and philosophical poems. From acquiescing to the demands of fate to meditations on the meaning of art, Eagleton puts her emotion, wit, and humour to powerful use in this collection, drawing the reader into each card, syllable by syllable.

Alex Eagleton is a queer author and poet writing on Ngunnawal and Ngambri land. She has been writing poetry ever since she was young (well, younger) and her debut collection To Hang the Masks Upon the Wall was released in January of 2023. Not content with that, Alex then released a chapbook in August of 2023 titled the merry-go-round. In 2024, her poem Meetings with Death was published by Wingless Dreamer Publications in their Night Worship anthology. Outside of poetry, Alex is completing a Bachelor of Arts with a specialisation in Middle Eastern Gender Studies. As part of her studies, she is a co-author on two articles awaiting publication in various academic journals. In her free time, Alex enjoys reading queer romances, playing TTRPG’s, and furthering her caffeine addiction.

Open mic sign up on the night with MC Lawren Wooding so arrive a bit before 7pm.
