AFTERNOON POETRY

1pm Sunday 23 May at the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra

Join Australian Poetry Slam Champion CJ Bowerbird and some of Canberra’s best spoken-word artists, Eleanor Malbon and Audrey McCormick for an afternoon of poetry, participation and love. Take part in a crowd sourced poem and start warming up your vocals - this will be an open mic event where you can share your own words on love in all its forms.

CJ Bowerbird is the 2012 Australian Poetry Slam Champion and a two-time TEDxCanberra performer. In 2018, he released Beyond This Blue, a recording of the show he created with the Downfall Choir for the 2017 National Folk Festival. He combines words and clumsy movement as part of the Sound & Fury Ensemble.

Eleanor Malbon has performed poetry in festivals and events throughout Australia including the You Are Here festival and Crack Theatre festival. Her poems have been published nationally by Cordite, Grapple Publishing, Express Media and internationally by New River Press. Her words have a distinctly ecological flavour.

Audrey McCormick began performing at That Poetry Thing at Smith’s Alternative in Canberra nearly two years ago, although she has been writing poetry for more than half her life. She was a national finalist in the Australian Poetry Slam. Her poems draw on a combination of the hilarious, and at times daunting, experiences of growing up.
