Ginsights with Kaaron Warren

6-8pm Thursday 5 June

On Thursday 5 June from 6 - 8 pm, Big River Distilling Co and paperchain bookstore will host Ginsights with guest author Kaaron Warren. Kaaron is the author of six novels: Slights, Walking the Tree, Mistification, The Grief Hole, Tide of Stone and The Underhistory, two novellas: Into Bones Like Oil and Bitters, and six short story collections: Through Splintered Walls, The Grinding House, DeadSea Fruit, Primer to Kaaron Warren, The Gate Theory and Calvaria Fell. Her writing has won Shirley Jackson Awards, Australian Shadows Awards, Ditmar Awards and Aurealis Awards.

All are welcome to come along to join this informal reader/writer conversation at Big River, 1 Dairy Road, Fyshwick. Use Entry 2 off Dairy Road and park in carpark P4. Bookings required tickets $10 per person.

At Ginsights we will be in conversation about The Underhistory, a novel that has been variously described as: “a dark and magnificently inventive novel about the lengths a lone woman will go to protect her home, and the family history it hides within its walls”, “a haunted-house mystery and a hostage thriller rolled into one”, “Sinister and lyrical … a haunting tale of loss, self-preservation and the darkness beneath” and “gothic horror in a contemporary Australian setting”.

Kaaron co-created Ginsights back in 2022 and has led the development and recognition of writers across many decades. We are delighted to be inviting Kaaron back to Ginsights in 2025 to discuss her remarkable work.

We will be serving a signature cocktail in honour of Kaaron's visit, a Pink Gin Fizz featuring Big River’s Pink Gin that combines rhubarb, vanilla and fresh ginger. Kaaron thinks Pera, the extraordinary main character of Underhistory, would enjoy a Pink Gin Fizz if she ever came along to Ginsights.

All are welcome to join this informal reader/writer conversation co-hosted by Canberra Writers Festival and Marion Writers Centre at Big River, 1 Dairy Road, Fyshwick.  Use Entry 2 off Dairy Road and park in carpark P4.

Bookings required: tickets are $10 per person
