The Dorothea MacKellar Poetry Awards
‘The Winding Road‘ was coined by the awards’ co-founder, Anne Bell, on a recent train trip home to Gunnedah. She surveyed the highs and flats of the landscape from her window seat, watching as roads transformed to watercourses. It made us think about our own journeys, the paths we always take, and sometimes about the route less travelled.
The Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards started with 300 entries and have since grown to be Australia’s largest and oldest poetry competition for children. Nine categories cover all levels of schooling from Kindergarten through to Year 12, as well as the Assisted Learning categories, the David Maher Award for Small Schools, the Kurrumbede Award, and the coveted Schools’ Award.
