A panel discussion on arts criticism
Thank you to all who came along to our panel discussion The Constructive Critic, presented in conjuction with Design Canberra. The panel was guided by curator, writer and visual arts historian Peter Haynes and covered art criticism across multiple disciplines including visual arts, design, theatre and literature. Peter was joined by authors Jack Heath, Karen Viggers and literary blogger Sue Terry (Whispering Gums). The discussion proved insightful and we could have kept going for hours.
The panel discussed art criticism across multiple disciplines including visual arts, design, theatre and literature, and its importance and impact. They discussed the purpose of arts criticism. What has changed now everyone has a voice via social media and what is the relationship between artist and critic like? Can artists fairly critique other artists ?
