That Poetry Thing presents: Leonard James (WA) + Audrey McCormick (ACT) + open mic

Leonard James is a poet from Perth/Derbal Yerrigan. They have previously been an organiser for Perth Poetry Club and Clear Your Throat, interviewed poets on KCR102.5fm, curated two issues of Creatrix, judged the Creatrix Prize twice, judged the MIFWA Open Your Mind Poetry Competition for mental illness, performed for City of Melville as part of Melville Storylines, as well as collaborated on events with WA Poets and Fellowship Australian Writers WA. They currently organise events and promotions for Duck And Dash Poetry including an annual Online Poetry Fundraiser and a Free Book Giveaway, and in their spare time offer monthly workshops at the Lorikeet Centre. Leonard's poetry has a variety of styles and themes.

Audrey McCormick is a student poet who works and writes on Ngunnawal and Ngambri land. Audrey has been a three-time national finalist in the Australian Poetry Slam and has performed her poetry around Canberra, including at Enlighten Festival, the National Folk Festival, the Australian Love Stories exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, and Poetic City. Her poetry explores her experiences as a young, queer woman in Australia.

Open mic is sign up on the night with the MC, arrive before 7, you have three minutes each poet (about a page and a half of poetry) or two or three small poems. Please time your poems when you rehearse.
