Rico Craig’s ‘Our Tongues Are Songs’ and Jerzy Beaumont’s ‘Errant Night’
The ACT Writers team were thrilled to get along to Smith’s Alternative Bookstore on Monday 19 April, not just to enjoy a double-header launch of new poetry from Recent Work Press, but to cheer on our very own Jerzy Beaumont.
It was doubly special to celebrate with a writer whose journey to publication you have seen first-hand. Jerzy, like all writers, put an incredible amount of toil into Errant Night, and diligently sought the help and support that would bring his work to the highest level.
The result is a marvel (if we may say so) of striking prose poetry dancing with compelling science fiction. Jerzy charts his own experiences of loss, despair and healing by taking the reader on a flight through space and time; on a quest for missing stars.
Jerzy thanked veteran poet, Penelope Layland, for her role as editor of Errant Night, and publisher Shane Strange, for his support and belief in the singular work.

Rico Craig spoke with heart and humour as he launched his new work, Our Tongues Are songs. He read a compelling, moving selection of poems musing on the imprints our young lives leave on cities, and vice versa; the cerebral healing we endure after physical trauma; and the pictures and dreams we create around family.
Music is a vivid part of Our Tongues Are Songs, and Craig brought the beats and pulses of his work to life.
