Batchelor elected ACTW Chair

ACT Writers AGM sees interim Chair Emma Batchelor formally appointed, four directors reinstated

ACT Writers, the leading organisation for writing-based culture in the ACT, held its digital AGM by Zoom on Thursday 7 April.

ACT Writers are excited to welcome Emma Batchelor (formerly interim Chair) as its officially appointed Chair, while one new nominee was appointed to the Board and three others were returned as Board directors.

On her formal appointment as Chair, Emma expressed a firm commitment to implementing a strategic vision to shape ACT Writers’ operations over the next five years.

“We will continue to serve writers of all backgrounds, and continue to play our role as advocates for our region and sector,” Emma said.

“We plan to review program offerings, with a focus on quality and diversity … we are also excited to be using our new format of awards to celebrate the incredible work of our region’s writers, against the odds over the past 2 years.”

Alex Sloan AM was re-instated as ACT Writers’ Deputy Chair, and Katarina Pearson and Deborah Stevens were successful in their re-nomination for fresh two-year terms with the ACT Writers Board. Samantha Faulkner’s nomination to commence her first term with the Board was also successful. As well as the organisation’s team and board members, ACTW were delighted to have a number of its dedicated members in attendance at the virtual AGM.

ACT Writers farewelled outgoing Chair, Sophie Mannix, thanking her for her many years of work with ACTW. Board member and financial subcommittee member, Ann Poole, was also farewelled as she concluded her tenure with the ACTW Board. Her dedication and invaluable financial and accounting expertise have been a wonderful asset to the organisation.
