Canberra writers Christopher Nailer and Nina Kavunenko launch their new books at a fundraiser for Ukraine relief appeals. Christopher’s The Kyiv Poems, published by Cyder Press, collects 66 poems he has sent to a friend in Kyiv since Russia’s full-scale invasion began. Nina’s A Good Cossack, published by NMK Press in 2022, documents the life of her father, Oleh Kavunenko, a post-war refugee who settled in Canberra and campaigned against Soviet oppression in Ukraine.
Copies of A Good Cossack cost $25, with all proceeds going to the appeals. Attendees who show a receipt for a donation to one of eight listed appeals receive The Kyiv Poems.
