Elanna Herbert was born in, and lived in Canberra for many years. She has also lived in the Yass Valley and Perth. She now writes from Yuin country (southern Shoalhaven). Her poetry and short fiction has appeared in Westerly, StylusLit, Science Write Now, Meniscus, Axon, and Australian Poetry Anthology, among others. Elanna’s poetry collection sifting fire writing coast (Walleah Press 2023) shortlisted for the 2024 MARION/ACT Literary Awards. She won the 2020 June Shenfield National Poetry Award and 2018 South Coast Writing Award; shortlisted for the 2021 Australian Catholic University Prize for Poetry, and was twice runner up for Queensland Poetry’s Emerging Older Poets’ Award. Her short story collection Frieda and the Cops (Ginninderra Press, 2005) was runner up in the 2006 ACT Writing and Publishing Awards. The manuscript won the 2001 Marion Eldridge Award. Elanna holds a Doctorate in Communication from University of Canberra.
