Do you want to deep-dive into the craft of mystery and thriller writing? Do you have an idea for a mystery or thriller novel? Maybe you already have a draft or a work-in-progress?
This Mystery and Thrillers Queer* Storytelling in-person course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge of key aspects of writing a mystery or thriller piece in a safe, inclusive and supportive space. The course will cover all the essential components of the mystery and thriller genres, and how to engage with readers within this space. There will be opportunities to build community and to work collaboratively with other Queer* writers.
The Mystery and Thrillers Queer* Storytelling course offers sessions in:
The subgenres of crime and thriller fiction
Exploring Queer* representation in the mystery and thriller genre
Understanding key mystery/thriller tropes
Crafting convincing characters
Building pace and narrative
You will finish this course with:
Comprehensive knowledge of the craft of writing mystery/ thriller: how to hit all the key points to engage a reader and keep them turning pages
An outline for a novel (or, if you have a draft novel already, a revision plan)
The Scream Queen Queer* Mystery/Thriller Writing course runs for 8 hours of in-person learning.

A light lunch and snacks will be provided. You will get feedback from peers and instructors during the workshop.
This workshop will be delivered by Dr. Honni Van Rijswijk and Jo Falvey. Both are experienced adult educators, as well as Queer* writers. Dr. Van Rijswijk’s latest novel Breeder was a 2022 Lammy Award Finalist for LGBTQIA* speculative fiction and has been distributed internationally.
