Join the Book Cow team for the launch of Canberra author Samantha Tidy's novel, The Happiness Jar

Join The BookCow Kingston bookstore and local broadcaster / arts commentator Barbie Robinson for a conversation with Canberra author Samantha Tidy, to celebrate the 10th Anniversary Revised Edition of her award-winning novel, THE HAPPINESS JAR.

THE HAPPINESS JAR is being re-released in February 2023 with a new cover to coincide with the author's four new children's book releases with four other publishers in 2023.

The 2013 edition was award-winning and best-selling and a popular favourite among bookclubs, winning the 2014 ACT Writing and Publishing Award for Fiction, and Runner-Up (To Hannah Kent's Burial Rites) in the FAW Christina Stead Award, among other nominations.

This event will be held in the open air at LAVA Cafe at Eyre Street Market in Kingston. Alcoholic and non-alcohol drinks are available as well as great food. If the rain gods decide to descend, we will move just across the road the bookstore, co-hosts of the evening.

Books will be available (RRP $32.95) for purchase and signing by the author.
Children are welcome and may even get a sneak preview of Sam's march new release children's picture book, Cloudspotting (illustrated by Susannah Crispe), with Windy Hollow Books.


Samantha Tidy is a passionate permaculturalist, educator and award-winning author of both adult and children’s books. She writes fiction and non-fiction that seeks to cultivate community and connection.

Her past publications include Our Bush Capital (illustrated by Juliette Dudley), The Flying Dream (illustrated by Connah Brecon), The Blue Polar Bear (illustrated by Ian Forss) and The Day We Built the Bridge, published by MidnightSun Publishing (illustrated by Fiona Burrows). Her first novel, Cappuccino Diva was Runner-Up for the prestigious TAG Hungerford Award.

2023 will be a busy year of new picture book releases, with Cloudspotting in March with Windy Hollow Books (illustrated by Susannah Crispe), The Friendship Flight with NLA Publishing in May (illustrated by Karen Erasmus), Wollemi: Saving a Dinosaur Tree with CSIRO Publishing in August (illustrated by Rachel Gyan), and When Grandma Burnt Her Bra with EK books in September (illustrated by Aśka).

In 2024, a sequel to the bridge book will be released by MidnightSun Publishing titled The Day We Built the Opera House (illustrated by Fiona Burrows).

Samantha was recently announced as the Anne Edgeworth Fellow for 2023, which will see her enjoying a writer's residency to write a Young Adult climate-fiction novel that reveals that community is key to navigating the climate crisis.
