On Surviving: A Conversation with Kate Mildenhall & Jane Harper

Two of Australia's very best authors discuss this and more, as well as the themes that unite and divide their two very different but equally electric books.

ABOUT THE BOOKS

The Mother Fault by Kate Mildenhall is set in the dystopic present, where Mim – mother, daughter, wife, sister – shucks her life to go in search of her missing husband save her children. Out 2 September.

The Survivors by Jane Harper is a standalone story, set on the Tasmanian coast. Kieran Elliott's life changed forever on a single day when a reckless mistake led to devastating consequences. Out 22 September.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Kate Mildenhall is a writer and teacher. Her debut novel, Skylarking, was named in Readings Top Ten Fiction Books of 2016 and longlisted for Best Debut Fiction in The Indie Book Awards 2017 and the 2017 Voss Literary Prize. Kate teaches creative writing to young writers and co-hosts The First Time, a podcast about the first time you publish a book. The Mother Fault is her second novel. Kate lives with her partner and two daughters in Hurstbridge, Victoria.

Jane Harper is the author of the international bestsellers The Dry, Force of Nature and The Lost Man. Her books are published in over forty territories. Jane has won numerous top awards including the Australian Book Industry Awards Book of the Year, the Australian Indie Awards Book of the Year, the CWA Gold Dagger Award for Best Crime Novel, and the British Book Awards Crime and Thriller Book of the Year. Jane worked as a print journalist for thirteen years both in Australia and the UK, and now lives in Melbourne with her husband and two children. Jane's fourth novel The Survivors is publishing 22 September.
