Ginsights with Angie Faye Martin

6-8pm Thursday 20 November

On Thursday 20 November 2025, Big River Distilling Co and paperchain bookstore will host Ginsights with guest author Angie Faye Martin, a writer and editor of Kooma, Kamilaroi and European heritage. Angie spent many years working in policy roles in state and federal government before launching Versed Writings in 2019, a professional writing and editing business that grew from Angie’s appreciation for meaningful, streamlined written prose.

Angie’s work has been published in MeanjinGarlandThe Saltbush Review and The Rocks Remain. She is a member of the First Nations Australia Writers Network and accredited with the Institute of Professional Editors. Melaleuca, her debut novel published in May 2025, will be the focus of our discussions at Ginsights. Melaleuca has been extremely popular with readers and highly acclaimed by reviewers: described by Aurelia Orr from Readings Books as: “.. a masterful debut that calls for justice and change within Australian politics, the judicial system and cultural mindset.” and by Ruth Wykes from Sisters in Crime Australia as: “a beautifully written, absorbing crime novel that introduces us to a stunning new voice to Australian women’s crime fiction.”

At Ginsights we will have a formal Q&A and informal conversations with Angie over cocktails. Our audience will be able to buy a copy of the book and have it signed by Angie. We will serve complimentary snacks and guests can purchase cocktails or no alcohol drinks from the Big River menu. We will also be serving a signature cocktail in honour of Angie’s visit, a Mandarin Sonic, with Big River Mandarin Gin that features fresh mandarin peel and Sichuan pepper.

All are welcome to come along to join this informal reader/writer conversation supported by Canberra Writers Festival and MARION. You can find Ginsights at Big River Distilling Co, 1 Dairy Road, Fyshwick.  Use Entry 2 off Dairy Road and park in carpark P4.

Bookings essential and tickets are $10.
