Ginsights with Colly Campbell
6-8pm Thursday 10 July
On Thursday 10 July from 6-8 pm, Big River Distilling Co and paperchain bookstore will host Ginsights with Canberra author and publisher Colly Campbell. Colly says: “A novel is a great river of imagination where both writers and readers, young and old, can plunge and be pulled along in those twisty currents of ideas, images, conversations, stories, worlds, and yes! You can travel through time, sitting on your couch.”
All are welcome to come along to join this informal reader/writer conversation at Big River, 1 Dairy Road, Fyshwick. Use Entry 2 off Dairy Road and park in carpark P4. Bookings required tickets $10 per person.
Colly has written two futuristic climate change thrillers The Capricorn Sky (2020) and its sequel, The Kyoto Bell (2021). The Capricorn Sky was the only work of fiction on the Australia Institute’s essential reads list of 2020.
Colly’s third novel Judge Rosa Somberly: The Caiman v Tau al-Gorz, is a young adult eco-fantasy, and was published in 2024. Rosa is a mysterious young Judge who must preside over conflicts in a court where anyone or anything can seek justice. This novel is an eco-fantasy with fast action, mystery, monsters and time travel – it’s all there – but at the heart of the story is the clash between unrelenting development and the natural world.
At Ginsights we will explore Colly’s use of the speculative genre to engage young adult and adult readers to build awareness and call people to action to address the environmental challenges we face.
We will be serving a signature cocktail in honour of Colly's visit: a Mandarin Sonic featuring Big River’s Mandarin Gin that combines fresh mandarin peel and Chinese five spice. This one can also be served as a mocktail for any non-drinkers who join us.
