About John Collee
John is one of Australia's most successful and versatile screenwriters.
Starting out as a novelist, he wrote Kingsley’s Touch followed by A Paper Mask and The Rig, all published by Viking/Penguin.
His feature films – often co-written with their respective directors – range from blockbuster action – the Oscar nominated “Master and Commander” – to historical dramas such as “Creation”, and animated family movies such as the Oscar winning “Happy Feet”
His Chinese language hit “Wolf Totem” (2016) written with Jean-Jacques Annaud, made $100M at the Chinese box office. By contrast, the micro-budget “Tanna”, co-created over several months with a remote island tribe in Vanuatu, was nominated in 2017 for best foreign language Oscar.
Current projects include "Tobruk" for DEMS Entertainment; also Dev Patel's directorial debut "Monkey Man", (currently in post-production in Adelaide), and an 8-part adaptation of the wildly successful novel "Boy Swallows Universe".
