ANU Korea Institute - Life and poetry with Choi Jieun
6pm, Monday 5 October 2026
Hedley Bull Lecture Theatre 1, ANU
130 Garran Road, Acton, ACT, 2601
To read Choi Jieun’s work is to read a part of her soul, and perhaps find your own within it. She weaves herself into her writing, not to make herself the centre of it, but as an almost inadvertent consequence of seeking honesty and sincerity through writing. In her first ever event outside Korea, she talks about her decade-long career turning life into poetry and poetry into life, the transition from writing poems to essays, and the strong desire for human connection that led her to fly across an ocean despite her aerophobia. The event is also an exclusive opportunity to encounter Choi’s work in English, as translations by students of the 2026 Korean Literature Translation Workshop will be presented to the audience.
The discussion will be facilitated by Aditi Dubey from the ANU Korean Literature Translation Hub.
Light dinner provided half an hour before the event.
