Submissions for the 2021 Ned Kelly Awards are open until March 31 2021.

Best Crime Fiction

This award is for the best crime novel / work of fiction by an Australian author, published during the Judging Period (see below). The broadest definition of the crime novel defines eligible books including thrillers, suspense novels and spy fiction and includes action/ adventure stories, thrillers and mysteries.

Best Debut Crime Fiction 

This award is for the best debut crime novel by an Australian author, published during the Judging Period (see below), which also is a debut work by this author. Debut work takes into account any works by the author that have been published in an alternative genre / category OR under a pseudonym including as self-published works. The broadest definition of the crime novel defines eligible books that are set in any period and include, but are not limited to, spy fiction and includes action/ adventure stories, thrillers and mysteries. 

Best True Crime

This award is for any non-fiction work on a crime related theme by an Australian author as the book was first published in the Judging Period (see below). This award encompasses, though is not limited to, non-fiction works relating to true crime, historical crime, crime-related biography, autobiography and crime-fiction guides.

Best International Crime Fiction

This award is for the best crime fiction novel by an international author (that is, an author who is not an Australian citizen or resident). The book must be published for the first time in Australia between March 1 2020 and Feb 28 2021. It is still eligible if published overseas or published in another language prior to these dates, as long as it was first published/released in Australia during the above time period. The Ned Kelly Award for Best International Crime Fiction is only open to submissions from Australian publishers by invitation. Request details - info@austcrimewriters.com
