End-of-Year Celebration

On Friday 28 November, we held our End-of-Year Members’ Gathering at Gorman Arts Centre, where we were able to celebrate 30 years of MARION. It felt incredibly fitting to be back at Gorman House, where we were located for many years.

Craig Cormick taking the audience back in time.

In the spirit of the old days, we asked our members to “bring a plate”.

We were delighted to welcome so many members and to celebrate 30 Years of MARION and the ACT Writers Centre, along with our vibrant community of writers, readers and creative voices.

Poet and spoken word artist CJ Bowerbird hosted our nineties themed open mic, harking back to the year that was. Thank you to everyone who shared; we loved hearing all your contributions, and thank you to Craig Cormick for taking us back in time.

We also invited members to send in photos of themselves from around 1995 for the evening. We loved guessing who was who!

We’re very grateful to Capital Brewing Co as our drink sponsors for the evening, and to the team at Gorman Arts Centre who were brilliant!

We extend our warm thanks to all our members, friends, supporters and creative collaborators who joined us throughout the year. Your enthusiasm, generosity and commitment continue to shape MARION as a welcoming and dynamic home for writers in the ACT and beyond.

Here’s to 30 years of MARION, and many more!

You can’t have a birthday party without cake! Our birthday cakes for the evening featured the names of some of the people who have been part of our story, and helped to shape our organisation.

MARION extends our heartfelt thanks to the ACT Government, Capital Brewing Co, and Gorman Arts Centre.
