AGM - 6pm Wednesday 29 April 2020
It’s an exciting time for the ACT Writers Centre. This year we celebrate 25 years of contributing to the development of ACT writers in all their diversity. Together we have achieved a lot, and it is thrilling to see the ACT continue to be known as a place where great writing happens. Of course, there’s so much more we can do.
Our fundamental commitment is to ensuring ACT writers receive the support, information, and opportunities they need to thrive.
It is also a challenging time. The COVID-19 pandemic and its ramifications will be with us for the foreseeable future. Economically, the next couple of years will be tough. We’ll need fresh thinking, informed strategies, and enduring collaborations.
To help us be an even more effective, energetic and robust writing organisation, we are looking for suitably qualified people to join our board.
We’d love to hear from you if you understand what it means to be a writer. Maybe you know how to prepare highly competitive grant applications. Perhaps you have expertise in finance or human resources or the law. Maybe you have exciting ideas for how we can support writers at all stages of their careers. Perhaps you are simply looking to be more connected to your community. If so, now is the perfect time to take part and make a contribution.
We’re looking forward to seeing you.
To nominate for a position
Please email director@actwriters.org with your relevant qualifications. Please also provide a 100-word statement on your eligibility for the position and the ACT Writers Centre member who endorses this nomination.
Due to the ongoing challenges arising from COVID-19, the ACT Writers Centre (ACTWC) Board of Directors has agreed to extend applications for Board Director positions until 5pm AEST Wednesday 22 April.
Section 13.1B of the ACT Writers Centre Constitution stipulates that all nominations must be received 14 days before the Annual General Meeting. The Board have agreed to suspend this section temporarily, to be formally accepted at the AGM. Subsequently, under legislative requirements, the ACTWC will receive nominations for board positions up to 7 days before the AGM. We encourage anyone interested to apply for a position on the Board, particularly if you have experience in financial management, not-for-profit law, and not-for-profit business management.
Nominations close 5pm AEST Wednesday 22 April 2020.
The ACT Writers Centre Board welcome nominations from all members or independents who would like to contribute to a dynamic and creative not-for-profit organisation. The Board particularly invites individuals who have the following interest or experience:
- Financial management and experience
- Fundraising and sponsorship experience
- Not-for-profit law and community organisation experience
The ACT Writers Centre is continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic. It is our over-riding priority to ensure the health and safety of our community. To ensure we comply with our reporting and constitutional obligations, as well as maximise personal health and safety, the ACT Writers Centre Annual General Meeting for the 2019 calendar year will be held online via ZOOM at 6pm on Wednesday 29 April.
As this will be the first time the ACT Writers Centre holds an online AGM, we appreciate your understanding and patience.
Running of the Meeting
The way voting will occur online is the Chair will call for votes, those who are in favour are to write Aye in the Zoom chat and those against to write Nay. These votes will be tallied and a record will be kept.
